Welcome to a list of things I have done in the real world, mainly in the midlands of England.
Secret Cyborgz: The Legend of the Goblin Trumpet March 2008, Pirate Party, 27a Access Artspace, Leicester
Some Cartoons January-March 2008, De Montfort Hall, City Gallery Offsite, Leicester
"Probably Leicester's best comic artist, Richard Peel goes all out for his exhibition at De Montfort Hall with Some Cartoons - a selection of humourous yet critically and socially engaged comics. Peel has become a well known figure in the local art world producing numerous comics, many of which were compiled into his book Fights 'n' Wizards. His Exhibition coincides with the Leicester Comedy Festival."
Secret Cyborgz: The Awful Curse of Baron Von Frightmare February 2008, Wildcard 3, Leicester
The Book of Horror October 2007, Wildcard 2, Leicester
24 Hour Comics October 2007, ICA, London
A challenge to build the best comic ever in just 24 hours. 24-Hour comics site here. My comic is here.
The Richard Peel Rockshow October 2007, Artober Launch Party, Leicester
The Satan Sisters March/April 2007, Wildcard, Leicester
KR-36 March/April 2007, The Event, Birmingham
A participant-led, covert art performance, in the form of a live roleplay game. Players became spies and completed missions at the behest of Control. As KR-36 agent codename: THE GEEK, I engaged players with cassette tapes; tabletop roleplay games and forgeries of Action Comics #1 (Shhh! Don't tell DC Comics).
Knock Down Ginger October 2006, My House Gallery, Nottingham
A repeat appearance at this august institute. I presented an idea for a kids' cartoon I'm working on called Secret Cyborgz, to see what their reaction was. (they were like, "oh my word!") I also exhibited a really good sound installation in the cupboard under the stairs.
Captainland September 2006, Ikon Gallery Offsite, Birmingham
Captain Ed sailed his nautical themes and marvels into the midlands once again. An interactive performance in Eastside Green. I drew pirate portraits and performed as Ole Varney, a wizard of the sea.
Wizardwars June 2006, Centenary Square, Birmingham
aas and Captain Ed joined me in this, my second Proto-Ballet performance. Performed in the Pink House in its Birmingham location.
Dot Arena 2 May 2006, Belvoir Street, Leicester
The Leicester art group, Dot, filled a shop-space with a cardboard replica of Leicester, an ambitious reprise of the first Dot Arena. I exhibited cartoon books inside the miniature City Library.
Samuel and the Space Invaders April 2006, Trinity House, Leicester
This Exhibition formed part of the Slideshow season in Leicester. I performed the world's very first Proto-Ballet. This means that I and friends dance around and mime to a cassette tape of music and stories, to the delight of an audience-style gathering. This first Proto-Ballet was entitled "Trapmaster: Journey Through the Vortex". Videos here and here
Paul Energy November 2005, My House Gallery, Nottingham
My debut solo show and another excuse to shift my reasonably priced cartoon and comic books.
Dot Open Studios September 2005, The old abandoned Holt's Socks factory, Leicester
During Leicester's open studios season, Dot fabricated a believable studio space for one day only. While Ed and Sally led tours through the building, I and other artists had to pretend to be artists pretending to be getting on with art as normal when in fact we were really showing off to the tours when in fact the whole thing was fake anyway. It blew my mind.
Gary7 May 2005, Custard Factory, Birmingham
Gary 7 was an exhibition organised by aas, based on the Star Trek Character of the same name. I produced a four-page comic. Read A review of this exhibition .
Dot Arena April 2005, Phoenix Arts, Leicester
This was Dot's prototype cardboard model of Leicester city. I exhibited fragmented cartoon panels, woven throughout this collaborative installation. Also I performed a reading of "The Wicked Arena of Mayhem".
The Machine of Ramameseus March 2005, Bar Firefly, Leicester
This was a play I wrote and directed. It was performed at Does Tricks, a showcase for new performing arts. You can read the script and credits here.
